Toasted sliced or slivered almonds

Directions

  1. DIRECTIONS: Toast the sliced or slivered almonds on a cookie sheet at 350-F for 8 minutes or until lightly browned.
  2. Increas oven temperature to 400-F.
  3. Melt the butter and add the flour.
  4. Add the milk gradually stirring with a wire whisk to make a thick smooth sauce.
  5. Add the sugar.
  6. Remove from the heat and add the egg yolks one at a time.
  7. Add the ground almonds and almond extract.
  8. Beat the egg whites, with a pinch of salt and the cream of tartar, until stiff.
  9. Fold the almond mixture into the egg whites.
  10. Spoon into a prepared 4 cup souffle dish.
  11. Place the souffle in the oven and immediately reduce the heat to 375-F.
  12. Bake for 20 minutes.
  13. Sprinkle the baked souffle with the toasted almonds.
  14. Serve with whipped cream.
